New York, while also being the state that birthed hip-hop, is also responsible for a lot of gems that are taking over today’s scene. If you are looking to add some New York heat for the summer, then this tape is perfect for you. East Harlem’s rising producer, Eddy Rivers, has recently come out with a 3-track tape, with R2R Moe, Chow Lee, and Sha Gualla as the featured artists, all defining what is the new sound of New York. After hurting both of his knees in a baseball injury, Rivers’ passion transitioned from a career in sports to music.
“I always had musical inclination and knew how to make things sound pretty good, especially since I played church drums growing up.”
Little did he know that everything was about to change for him when his parents bought him his first laptop. Rivers became more serious with his production in 2020, where he would go on to extend his placement credits such as Kyle Richh, Fivio Foreign, and even Bobby Shmurda.
The tape, titled: “Damn Eddy”, is his first producer tape, paying tribute to his musical persona, as well as making people more aware of the Eddy Rivers style.
“I know people hear ‘Damn Eddy’ and some people never know who it is, so now people get to put the face to the name.”
The whole tape is a culmination of melodic drill, with elements of sampling and jersey club, which is perfectly executed by the featured artists of the tape. R2R Moe, who has been talked about in several OneTrack blogs, is one of the few artists who contains the ability to execute lyrical, and on-point bars on these type beats. Sha Gualla proves his vocal range in “Numb”, being attentive to the melody. And Chow Lee, who is not one to play with, is one of the reigning kings of melodic drill who continues to prove that position on this tape.
Make sure to check out his tape on all platforms, and be sure to follow Eddy Rivers on his YouTube and Instagram page.
