1800gs is a 26 year old Canadian artist hailing from Montreal. He’s been making music since
2016 and co-founded “GOSU”, a recording studio where he helps other local artists chase their dreams. When he was younger The Underachievers would bring him backstage and on the tourbus whenever they were in town. This opened his eyes and heart to a whole new world. Now all he could think about was having a touring bus for himself.
Pulling from other inspirations like Young Thug, Juice WRLD, and Blink 182 he’s cultivated a
sound of his own. Somewhat reminiscent of experimental Trippie Redd, 1800gs brings pure and unbridled energy to “TRUH”. Putting a rock twist on the hyper pop genre. Rock adjacent genres have been making big waves as of late, with everyone putting their own spin on things, but 1800gs still manages to stay original in his approach and execution. The lyrics have admittedly little wordplay, but that’s not the point of the song. It was to capture that feeling of moshing in the rain to somebody’s last set, and it certainly succeeds in that regard. I asked him to describe his sound in three words and he chose: "exquisite, exquisite, exquisite”, and it’s hard to argue.
With masterful production and his unique approach to vocal layering and editing, “TRUH” does an excellent job of getting you hype. The perfect party song and also the perfect song to just turn up to with a group of friends in a car. 1800gs also released a really fun music video for this one, directed by Le Jumper. Check it out on YouTube now and the rest of his catalog on all platforms.
