Whether it be through rock, rap, or any other genre, rage has long held its place in the music
landscape. Art is all about us confronting our feelings and sure, we couldn’t make art without
technology but it’s the former and not the ladder that truly makes us human. The ability to
outwardly express how we feel internally, on the level that we do at least, is what separates our species from the animal kingdom. We all share the same feelings for the most part but to
harness that energy and create something brand new, that’s the beauty of humanity.
All that being said, rage, anger, whatever you call it, is the most easily accessed of all feelings. Whether we act on it or not is our choice but we are genetically wired for confrontation, either with others or internally. This is why it’s so important to confront and express these feelings in a safe environment, thus we have art.
Today we examine a newer approach to rage, one that lays a melodic blanket over all that
anger. 23 year old Massachusetts artist Bcuube delivers an impressive take on the sub genre
with his song “Him”. The beat starts sounding like a video game and once the vocals start boy do they up the difficulty. Bcuube and feature Lil Keel compliment each other with soft but confident deliveries, creating a beautiful juxtaposition in the process.
With inspirations like Trippie Redd, Nav, and Young Thug you can see where the idea came
from but it never feels like imitation, rather a brand new approach to a still fresh idea. The song’s only two minutes but feels longer because of both the artists’ energy and yours. Checkout Bcuube and Lil Keels song “Him” out on all platforms now and stay tuned, rage is still evolving.
