Pop Meets Rage : Evolution of the Underground

RDM “Provoke” Song Review

Written by : Stacy James (@stacyjamesofficial)

I constantly hear that genres are dying as we enter this new era of self made/bedroom artists, but around every corner I see a more niche genre being created. When artists could only rely on the radio and mass marketing to get their voice heard it was much easier to force them into boxes. If they wanted to make it they’d have to conform to whatever was selling at the time. Plain and simple.

Over the years we got more smarter executives who understood the importance of variety and pushing the boundaries. Granted we also got dumber executives who thought that’s all there was to it but my point is that music steadily evolved. Artists steadily evolved. Getting more and more comfortable with experimenting with their instruments and voices. After the internet and especially SoundCloud it became impossible to keep creativity caged.

22 year old New Jersey artist RDM is a perfect example of a performer who refuses to be

shackled by a genre. Pulling from an ever expansive tool chest of inspirations featuring

Eminem, Lil Wayne, Korn, DefTones, Juice WRLD, and Lil Peep, the resulting sound isn’t that

surprising but nonetheless impressive.

RDM simply loves music and wants to create as much in as many ways as possible. “Provoke” was never meant to happen as this was the first time he’s hopped on a beat like this, but his drive to further his craft pushed him to give it a shot, and boy am I glad it did. The whole thing came about in a spur of the moment session with two lifelong friends:KJIII and B Fendy. The two features add diversity to an already unique track, bringing more grunge and rage to bounce off of RDM’s pop vocals and chorus. The three come together to create something completely original that will only help further the evolution of music. Check out “Provoke” out on all platforms now.
